Day 7 - Do you read? What are your favourite books?

Funny enough, I'm reading one of my favourite books at the moment, just to remind myself why I love it so much. It's titled "Cry, the beloved country" by Alan Paton. I fell in love with it after I watched the movie in grade 4 and much to my delight, they had the paperback version of it in our school library. I borrowed. I read. I loved.

But my ulimate favourite author is Jodi Picoult and I've quite the collection of her books stacked in my shelf (read as under my bed and in my cupboard). Of them all, I really enjoyed "Vanishing Acts" and "Mercy". Both tear-jerkers but a great read. Makes one think of the extremes they'd be willing to go for the people they claim to care about.

Another book I can think of is one titled "The testimony" by Anita Shreve. A book that portrays the scandals that go on beneath an elite New England boarding school. This leads to an upheaval in the lives of many. A well written novel by Shreve.

Anele Mdoda's It Feels Wrong To Laugh, But.. had me laughing throughout the book which is why it makes it on my list of favourite books. An easy read, yet very entertaining.
Day 5 - Five places you want to visit.

1. "NEW YORRRK! concrete jungle where dreams are made of, theres nothing you can't do." As soon as I visit this place, I'll know I've made it in this thing here we call life.

2. One of the most beautiful cities of the ancient world, ROME baby!

3. The city of angels, Los Angeles, California.

4. Just to spend some of that Arab money, Dubai.

5. Solely to take a picture next to a red telephone booth, I'd travel all the way to London. And ofcourse for the beautiful London Bridge.

Day 4 - The meaning behind your tumblr name.

First thing I want to clear up is the fact that this isn't a tumblr account, it's blogspot. Nonetheless, it's still a blog and serves the same purpose.

I decided on the name AllThingsZee because my blog isn't about anything specific, like fashion or cars, but rather ALL the THINGS that ZEE (Zethu, myself) fancies talking about, depending on the mood.

Day three - Your day in great detail.

I woke up, late as usual, and scrambled to the bathroom with my toiletry bag and vanity case. Quick shower, about 5 minutes to be exact, and just as I was about to dry up, Zizipho, my most prized and cherished alarm-clock called me. I told her I'd be at school soon. LIES.

Not sure what to wear, I picked out a pair of jeans and a black top from my laundry the previous day (Eric wouldn't be proud). No breakfast for me. Not only because I was late but because I don't have milk. Dueces to my room-mate whose still asleep.

I literally power-walked till I got to the robots. An excuse to stop. I was starting to get tired. Power-walk commenced as I got to cross the street.

I got to school. Attended my first lecture of the day (big achievement for me) and bunked my second one and third one. My friends and I went for lunch, which we refer to as the works. A student burger (vetkoek/fatcake) and chips (frenchfries) with extra spice, extra vinegar and lots of tomato sauce.

After stuffing ourselves with this tremendous meal, we sat in the sun for some vitamin D. At 13h30, we had an English test to write. I murdered it. After that, I headed to the computer lab to do a GROUP assignment that was due the following day (today) ALONE. Thanks a lot guys.

I headed back to res after 17h00. When I got to my room, lo and behold, this random girl who loves to visit my room ( I may have led her to think I liked her, but still...) is sitting on my bed. I began tidying my room, since I sort of left it in a mess earlier. I said nothing the whole time because I must admit, I was angry. Who wants an annoying visitor over after a long and tiring day. This girl went on and on about nothing with my room-mate. I sat there for a while, making it obvious the visitor wasn't welcome. After a while, I left the room to go chill with friends.

Lelethu, Sibu and Zenande always seem to improve my mood. They're probably right up there with Eric, Zizipho and Siya at being awesome. We talked, joked, laughed, and laughed even more. They later convinced me to go to church with them. And we did. Just a small service for the youth. I helped tons though. When I got to my room, the visitor was still there, eating out of MY bowl. I was livid, but said nothing. Instead I got into bed, did a crossword puzzle, played solitaire on my phone and fell asleep.
Owning womanhood...

"A man leads, guides, decides, protects and provides. A woman supports, inspires, influences, nourishes and nurtures."

This is something I heard on the radio one morning when I had pressed the snooze button on my alarm clock one too many times.I was busy trying to maneuver my head through my vest without having to take my headsets off when I paused, mid-maneuver, to listen to Azania's guest stipulate our roles in relationships, and how, by simply letting ourselves be women, we were halfway there at making these relationships work.

A year after my parents' seperation, I found myself doing all the hard labour around the house. Fixing broken appliances, carrying heavy items, etc. Naturally, this never bothered me because of all four of us females around the house, I was the strongest.

So one night, my then boyfriend and I were sitting on the couch, pretending to watch something uninteresting that was on the television just so we could hook up later (read as making-out and beyond)

To pass time, I would settle for playing with his belly-button.This was something we never agreed on. Five seconds into playing with his navel and we were wrestling on the living room floor. Following that, he asked me something so unexpected. "Why are you so strong?", he asked. I gave in. I didn't want him thinking he was in a relationship with a Xena, when he was nowhere near being a Hercules.

That night made me realise that when the opportunity presented itself, I would be more than willing to relinquish power to men. Not to boost their egos, but because it made me feel WOMANly.

Chivalry may be in a deep coma, but it is far from being dead. It's bound to be hard for men to be gentlemen when women won't act like ladies. I'm not saying women should be subordinate to men, but truly speaking, we have our roles.

Anele Mdoda, South African radio DJ addressed a similar issue in a book she wrote this year title "It Feels Wrong To Laugh, But...". In one chapter, she talks about her views on female soldiers. She writes, "Woman have no business being in front-line combat... We are the queens who already lose blood every month. The same queens who carry life in our bellies and give birth to the soldiers of the nations." *APPLAUDS*

Women need to know their roles and be secure about them. In the end, we all know that women are the ones who keep everything glued together. Having men take the credit every once in a while can sometimes be a good thing. Let them.

Just like Michelle Obama KNOWS she can run the U.S as well, if not even better, than Barack. But she settles for being the first lady. Knowing that all other (sensible) women know she's the one keeps things glued together.

Another example, Beyonce aka KingBey. Everybody knows though, that when Jigga is in the building, she's QUEENBey. It's not being submissive, it's letting herself be his woman.

Feminists might want to throttle me for this post, but nowhere did I say that they can't or shouldn't play the roles men play. By all means, be the lady in the biggest chair at the boardroom amoungst men only. But at home, know your role. Even if you bring home a bigger paycheck. Men will appreciate it and treat you like the Queen you truly are for it.

I'm out.
