Happy Birthday To Me

So today I turned 19. Nothing scares me like ageing. And I don't mean physically, or even mentally. It's just that so many expectations come with it. Like how the more the years go by, I won't be able to scream like a starstruck teenager and cry actual tears when I finally get to meet Chris Brown. And if I really do hit my mid-life crisis at 25 as anticipated, I won't be able to shave half my head or get a red weave like most girls were ballsy enough to do at my age.

But you know what, 19 is nothing. Or at least nothing compared to 20. I always make fun of people who turn 20 and tell them the story of how my brother who came back from P.E in his 2nd or 3rd year of varsity, showing us a dance move, telling us how it was THE move that everybody was doing. This was in 2007. Fast-forward to December 31st, 2009, my brother was doing the SAME move, saying the SAME words he had said when he showed it to us two years before. I automatically associated that with the dreaded 2-0.

What does have me panicking though, are the Justin Biebers and Selena Gomez' of this world who have basically built empires of their own before the ages of 19. Alas, this doesn't make me feel like a failure in the least bit. I'm in my first year of varsity (as most people my age should be), with new friends (and old) and learning to stand on my own two feet. I still have 11 more years to start worrying about marriage and all the other adulty things one has to worry about.

In the mean time, I'll just enjoy Chris Brown's music at an ignorant level, laugh out loud at the most awkward and random moments, chew on ice-lollies and chocolate bars before sensitive teeth start catching up with me, keep buying ridiculously expensive magazines I have no business owning in the hopes of aquiring one or two of those even more expensive outfits found in them by the time I turn 30. In the meantime, hooray to myself and a S/O to the big guy upstairs for giving me 19 years of  my life... BOTTOMS UP *raises hello kitty mug with chocolate milk in it*
